The ACGC track and field teams will be sending fifteen total entries to Drake Stadium this week for the 2019 Iowa High School Co-Ed State Track and Field Meet. Today we preview the four field entries.

Three athletes will contend for the podium at the blue oval. Senior Madison McDermott will be making her third consecutive state appearance in the shot put and second straight trip in the discus. Last year, McDermott finished in the top ten in both events, making the finals in the discus.

McDermott credits her father and coach, Mark for getting her back to state. “He’s my everything. Everything that he’s put in has gotten me where I’m at today. He’s put in as much work as I have, if not more, and really helped me push. It’s been awesome.”

Like McDermott, the other two state-bound Chargers hold the school records in their respective events. Unlike the senior thrower, junior Quynton Younker and freshman Chloe Largent will be making their first appearances at Drake Stadium. Younker will compete in the shot put and Largent will leap for gold in the high jump. Largent enters the state meet with the seventh highest jump after a record leap of five feet, two inches Friday at Panorama.

The field events begin Thursday. McDermott will throw tenth in the first flight of the shot put, which begins at 9am. Younker will throw fourth in the first flight of the shot put, beginning at 11:30. On Friday, McDermott will throw last in the first flight of the discus, beginning at 9am. Largent will jump in 18th position in the event set to begin at 11:30.
