The Perry School Board convened Monday evening in regular session.

The meeting began with a public hearing on the proposed resolution to continue participation in the Instructional Support Program. No one spoke against the matter, so following the hearing, the Board approved the resolution. Next, they approved several items related to the $6.5 million bond referendum for the industrial technology facility and wrestling/multipurpose room project, including: advertising the sale and bidding for the bonds; a services agreement and dissemination agent agreement with Piper Jaffray & Company; and an engagement agreement with Ahlers & Cooeny for bond counsel.

Following that, the Board approved the contracts for the next school year with the Perry Education Association, Perry Support Staff Association, Perry’s Academic, Cultural, and Enrichment Services (PACES) program support staff, administrators, and special services group as presented. Each entity received a more than 3% increase in pay across the board. The Board then approved the creation of the building trades class for the coming school year, as well as a memoranda of understanding with Des Moines Area Community College for the use of a trailer and tools for the program.

Other items approved included: bringing the Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates (iJAG) program to the middle school; an MOU to continue iJAG at the high school; instituting the Capturing Kids Hearts program at the elementary; a contract with Timberline Billing Service for medical claim processing; the Area Education Agency food purchasing agreement, summer food service wages, and 2019-20 meal prices; a trip to the National SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky; revisions to Board policies; a three-hour early out on June 6th; a sharing agreement with the Madrid School District for boys and girls soccer; hires, transfers, and resignations; a middle school band and choir trip to Minneapolis; and extra duty pay for the 2019 Commencement Service.

The meeting concluded with a closed session to consider disciplinary action against a student. To learn more about the Perry School Board meeting, listen to today’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program on air and at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
