Class 2A and 3A girls and boys are competing first at Drake Stadium in Des Moines for the first day of the Iowa High School Coed State Track & Field Meet. The Raccoon Valley Radio listening are will be following some 120 events over the next three days with updates online and on all three Raccoon Valley Radio stations-KDLS 1310 AM 99.7 FM, KGRA 98.9 FM, and KKRF 107.9 FM.

First on the track from our area was the girls’ prelims of the shuttle hurdle relay. In 2A, Van Meter qualified for the 2A final at 11:50 a.m. Saturday by running 1:08.21 with Cari Walton, Jenna Schlueter, Abby Archer, and Natalie Barth. The Bulldogs were second in their heat. Panorama and Greene County were also in the 2A field, but did not make the final. The Panthers ran 1:10.73 with Shey Storesund, Abbi Brown, Lydia Lindstrom, and Morgan Johnk, for third in their heat and thirteenth overall. The Rams were sixteenth in 1:11.45 and third in their heat with Melanie Doran, Izzy Bravard, Makala Kafer, and Lily Muir.

ADM and Dallas Center-Grimes ran in the 3A prelims with the Tigers qualifying for the final on Saturday. ADM won their heat in 1:07.06 and is the fifth fastest qualifier with Kristen Baier, Abigail Calligan, Holland Zwank, and Anna Kenny. DC-G was second in their heat and twelfth overall in 1:08.37 with Sarah Frett, Katherine Luebke, Katelyn Knudsen, and Dakota Miles.

The first individual event on the track was the 2A girls’ 3,000 meter run and the area had two of the top four place winners. ACGC junior Kate Crawford was second in 10:37.51, and Panorama sophomore Ella Waddle was fourth in 10:51.50. Natalie Paulson of DC-G was 17th in the 3A field in 11:33.44.

The boys 3,200 meter run in 2A saw ACGC’s Noah Nelsen score a point for his team with an eighth place finish in 9:59.18. Louden Foster of West Central Valley was 10th in 10:04.42, and Garrett Buxton of Ogden was 20th in 10:37.00. Sophomore Nate Mueller of ADM was fourth in the 3A 3,200 in 9:48.41 with Aiden Ramsey of DC-G 21st in 10:33.18, and ADM’s Ethan Juergens of ADM 22nd in 10:40.72..

Junior Colby Kafer of Greene County was second in the 2A boys’ long jump with a person best leap of 22′ 6-1/2″. He topped his previous best by 5-1/2″. Davion Wilson of Woodward Academy was 23rd at 18-3-1/2″.

Senior Madison McDermott of ACGC was ninth in the 2A shot put for girls at 38′ 0″.

ADM’s Tate Stine-Smith tied for eighth place at 6′ 3″ in the high jump for 3A boys and Jordan Sedivec of DC-G tied for 21st at 5′ 9″.

Prelims of the 200 meter dash are complete. Cole Arnburg of West Central Valley was edged out of the eighth and final spot in Saturday’s 2A boys final by .005. He was ninth in 23:076. Donovan Sanders of Woodward Academy was tenth in :2311, and Kafer was 16th in 23:34.

In the girls’ 200 prelims, Olivia Tollari of ADM was ninth in 26.51, missing the eighth spot and a trip to the finals by .04. Panorama’s Kassidy Bremer was 18th in 27.21.

Panorama’s girls were fifth in the 4 x 800 in 2A. They won the first section in 9:51.17 with Olivia Steffen Payton Beckman Lydia Lindstrom, and Gwen Steffen. Only four teams from the second section were faster than the Panthers. ACGC was 20th in the same race in 10:24.16 with Audrey Stowe, Jorja Hoover, Lauryn Emblazon, and Rylee Sloss.

DC-G’s girls were fourth in the 3A 4 x 800 in 9:42.83 with Grace Mikota, Hannah Little, Miranda Muhlstein, and Megan Sterbenz. Winterset was 20th in 10:12.20 with Lauren Carter, Ainsley Gurwell, Caitlin Fairchild, and Darci Wiseman.

The Van Meter boys were eleventh in 2A in the 4 x 800 in 8:23.49 with Carson Wille, Jackson Wilcox, Tyler Haynes, and Creighton Netten.

The prelims of the 100 meter dash for 2A girls saw Mackenzie Blomgren of Van Meter get the eighth and final spot in Saturday’s final in :12.96. Savanna Fuller of ACGC was 22nd in :13.51.

Three 2A boys were in the prelims of the 100 and none made the finals. Tyler Teeples of Greene County was 15th in :11.62 with Donovin Sanders of Woodward Academy 17th in 11.66, and ACGC’s Dylan Soper 24th in 22:74. Perry’s Kato Dougan was 23rd in 3A in :11.76.

Three area girls were in the 2A long jump and Panorama’s Bailey Beckman placed third with a best leap of 16′ 11-1/4″. Kassidy Bremer of Panorama was ninth at 16′ 6″, and Brianna Osterson of Greene County was 22nd at 15′ 5-1/4″.

The two area 2A boys in the shot put were Tyler Miller of Greene County, 18th, at 47′ 1/4″, and Quentin Younker of ACGC, 19th, in 46′ 9-1/4″.

Class 3A boys threw the discus. Kaden Sutton of ADM was 19th at 135′ 2″ and ADM’s Tom Boorn was 23rd at 128′ 3″.

The 400 meter dash was run as a final and Maya Herman of Van Meter placed sixth in :59.21. Olivia Steffen of Panorama was 16th in 1:02.00. In 3A, Darci Wiseman of Winterset was 13th in 1:01.84.

Misfortune struck Arnburg of WCV in the 400 when he was disqualified in the 2A final. In 3A Kaleb Olejniczak of Perry was 12th in :50.98. Kobe Richard of Van Meter was 21st in :54.63 in 2A.

Two Class 3A boys’ shuttle hurdle relay teams made the Saturday final. Winterset qualified with the fifth fastest time of 1:01.10 with Ethan Simon, Blake Bellamy, Tyler Brown, and Matt Benshoof. ADM qualified in 1:01.51, the seventh fastest time, with Lucas Heitz, Colton Pirtle, Nolan Harsh, and Matt Dufoe.

Action for 2A and 3A girls and boys begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
