Monday is Memorial Day, and there will be an assortment of ceremonies throughout Dallas County to honor fallen veterans.

In Perry, the American Legion, Post 85, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2060 will host a program at Violet Hill Cemetery, starting at 10 a.m. An invocation will be given by State Chaplain Ron Leber, followed by a reading by the VFW Post Commander Nathan Hoffman. The ceremony will conclude with a 21 gun salute and the playing of “Taps” by the VFW and Legion Honor Guard.

Services in Adel will be held Monday at the Oakdale Cemetery, with the program starting at 9 a.m. Finally, the annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter will be held from 8-9 a.m. The presiding officer will be Steven Lukan, the Executive Director for the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs, and the keynote speaker will be Command Sergeant Major Rachel Fails from the Iowa National Guard. U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne will also be in attendance. Each of the observances are free to attend, and the public is encouraged to participate.
