A former Jefferson teen was recently sentenced to prison for a January incident in Ames.

According to court documents, 18-year-old Rodney Dean Halterman pled guilty to lesser charges of assault causing serious injury and going armed with intent. He was sentenced to five years in prison for each charge with both sentences to run concurrently. He was given credit for time already served. Halterman was originally charged with a Class B Felony for attempted murder. The charges stemmed from a January 12th incident when Halterman allegedly shot a female in the chest inside an Ames residence. The victim was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center where she was later released.

Halterman was also sentenced to prison in an unrelated case that also happened in Ames in December of 2018, court documents show. Both sentences will run consecutively.

Halterman is still awaiting trial in Greene County for two separate drug incidents where he faces multiple felony charges. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
