The Perry School Board convened Monday evening in regular session.

The meeting started with the approval of several items related to athletics. The first was the continuation of the District’s agreement with 21st Century Rehab for sports medicine services. Following that, the Board approved the adoption of the “Return-To-Play” program for concussion protocol during athletic events, as mandated by new state law. However, Superintendent Clark Wicks pointed out that the school had been using this type of program for years in regards to head injuries. Next, they approved the creation of a strength and conditioning coordinator position, who will earn a $1,000 stipend and supervise at least 50 days of before and after school weightlifting sessions.

The final athletics-related action item approved was the transfer of $9,481.43 from the general fund to student activities fund for protective and safety equipment purchases in the last year. Other items approved included: hourly rates for Perry’s Academic, Cultural, and Enrichment Services (PACES) summer staff, as well as for the summer paint crew; continued participation in the School Administrators of Iowa Mentoring and Induction program; the verification of the District’s emergency operations plan; creation of the In-School Suspension Supervisor and Success Room Assistant Supervisor positions and pay rates; a universal 28E agreement for preschool; and revisions to Board policies, personnel changes, and fundraiser requests. The meeting concluded with a closed session to evaluate Wicks.
