A Jefferson man has died following a motorcycle crash this past weekend in Boone County.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, authorities responded to the incident at 3:35pm on Saturday, June 8th of a motorcycle versus SUV wreck at the intersection of Highway 30 and L Avenue. Fifty-four-year-old Kenneth Dale Hostetler of Jefferson was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on L Avenue. He was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 30. He then crossed the eastbound lanes into the median crossover. The report shows Hostetler failed to yield at the posted yield signs before turning into the westbound lanes onto the highway and struck the driver’s side door of a 2010 GMC Terrain SUV, that was driven by 52-year-old Christopher Charles Bryant of Boone.

Both Hostetler and his passenger, 56-year-old Susan Marie Sherlock of Jefferson, were ejected off of the motorcycle. The SUV came to a rest facing northwest on the right shoulder.

Hostetler suffered serious injuries and was transported by Mercy One to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Sherlock also had injuries and was taken to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines by ground ambulance. Her current status is unknown at this time. Bryant suffered abrasions to his left arm from his airbag that deployed, but refused medical treatment. The report shows Bryant was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The SUV sustained $10,000 in damages and the motorcycle was considered to be a total loss.

Funeral services for Hostetler will be held at 10:30am this Friday at the Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson.
