U.S. Representative Cindy Axne paid a visit to the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area Saturday, taking in the outdoors and a summer celebration.

The Congresswoman from the Iowa’s Third District started her day at Springbrook State Park, where she had a chance to talk with Guthrie County Conservation and representatives from the Department of Natural Resources. She also got to do some kayaking in the area alongside a family from Panora. After that, she headed to Dallas County to take part in the annual DeSoto Fun Days celebration. She told Raccoon Valley Radio she enjoyed the festivities at Little Bridge Park and had some good conversations with attendees that she’ll take with her when she heads back to Washington, D.C.

Axne added, the theme of her trip to the area was celebrating being with friends and neighbors, which she felt was on full display at both Springbrook at DeSoto. “I want to highlight folks getting together with people in their communities, and certainly being outdoors. And enjoying what Iowa has to offer, and to take advantage of that. Because we have the best people in the country right here in Iowa. Come out and meet your neighbors, enjoy the beautiful parks that we have, like where we’re standing right now, and spread the word that Iowa is a great place to live.”

In addition to her visits to Guthrie and Dallas County Saturday, Axne also hosted a pair of “Connect with Your Congresswoman” events in Winterset and Norwalk later in the day. As for the rest of DeSoto Fun Days, organizers thought it went well, particularly in the afternoon when the sun came out and Axne arrived. However, they admitted the weather likely discouraged some people from coming out. The morning parade was cancelled due to the rain, but every other activity they planned went without a hitch, including the car show, alumni gathering, Cattleman’s meal, and concert featuring the “Exit 113 Band.”
