A Jefferson man is dead following a single vehicle crash in Greene County Saturday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash happened at 11:57pm on County Road E-53 and Kirkwood Avenue. Sixty-year-old Ronald Eugene Kolbeck was traveling east on the county road, when he lost control of his 2012 Ford F-250 truck and struck the bridge rail. The report shows the truck dragged along the rail for several feet and came to rest on the east side of the bridge.

Kolbeck was transported by Greene County Ambulance to the Greene County Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. The report indicates Kolbeck wasn’t wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and airbags did not deploy and he was not ejected. The road conditions were wet and it was raining at the time of the incident. The truck sustained $10,000 in damages and there was $2,000 in damages to the bridge rail.

The Jefferson Police and Fire Departments, and Greene County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
