Tonight’s Greene County baseball game in Pocahontas vs. Pocahontas Area with mark the first time in a week the Rams have played. The reasons are inclement weather and the Holiday weekend. Coach John Hupp’s Rams are 8-17 and they’ll take on an Indians team that is 19-4 and winners of their last six games. The Indians have a gaudy .339 team batting average and stingy 1.60 team earned run average.

The Rams had won three games in a row before falling in Dayton to Southeast Valley by a 5-2 score on July 1, the last time they played. Junior Nick Breon has seen his batting average continue to rise as the season has gone on, and the shortstop/pitcher is now over the .400 mark at .403.

After tonight, the Rams have three games the rest of this week, all in Jefferson at Allensworth Field. They’ll host Underwood in non-conference play on Wednesday, Heart of Iowa Activities Conference co-leader North Polk (Alleman) on Thursday in a makeup game, and non-conference opponent Carroll, in a Friday game that was added to the schedule after the season began.
