Greene County saw its 2019 high school softball season come to an end on Wednesday night in State Center by a score of 11-1 to West Marshall in six innings by the 10-run rule. The contest was in the opening round of Class 3A Region 5 action. Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams end the season with a 10-18 record while WM advances to Friday night’s semifinals with a 14-17 mark. The Trojans went 2-0 vs. the Rams this season.

WM led 4-0 after one inning, It was 7-0 after two and 9-0 after the third frame. The Rams keep the Trojans off the board in innings four and five, but two runs in the bottom of the sixth ended the game.

The lone run for the Rams came in the sixth on a SAC fly from eighth grader Emma Hoyle. She singled in the second inning and was the only Greene County base runner until the fifth when junior Tieryn Tucker beat out an infield hit with one out. Megan Carey and Jenna Beyers singled in the sixth to account for all the hits for the Rams.

The Rams were out hit nine to four. Greene County had three errors to one for WM.

Hoyle took the pitching loss. Six of the runs were earned. The youngster had one strikeout, hit three batters, and walked five, but two were intentional walks.

Logan Nicholson was the winning pitcher and she also was on base four times from the lead-off position.

The Rams entered the game having won six of its previous eight games, while the Trojans had lost six in a row.
