Western Iowa Conference baseball runner-up Underwood visited Allensworth Field in Jefferson Wednesday night and left town with just its fourth  loss in 25 games. Coach John Hupp’s Rams trailed 5-0 early, but stormed back for a 9-5 win to improved to 9-18 on the season.

Senior Austin Delp was the winning pitcher. He allowed five runs, all earned, in the second inning, then shut down the Eagles, going 5-1/3 innings, picking up his third win of the season. The right-hander gave up eight hits and three walks to go with seven strikeouts. Senior David Richter picked up the save. He went the final 1-1/3 innings and allowed no runs on two hits and no walks. Richter struck five batters out.

The offense scored three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth. The Rams totaled 11 hits with two hits each from Delp, junior Tyler Teeples, senior Joe Anderson, and junior Brent Riley. Freshman Bryce Stalder, junior Nick Breon, and Richter, each had one hit. Stalder’s hit was a double and he had three runs batted in. Delp tripled and drove in one run, while Breon doubled and had one RBI. Riley drove in two runs with one RBI each from Clay Smith and Richter.

The Rams are home tonight on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com vs. North Polk (Alleman) in the final Heart of Iowa Activities Conference game of the season, a make up game from last month. The Comets are ranked ninth in Class 3A by the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. with coverage around 7 p.m.
