The 2019 high school softball season is over for Greene County. Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams finished with 10 wins and 18 losses after losing on Wednesday night in the opening round of Class 3A Region 5 play to West Marshall in State Center, 11-1, by the 10-run rule in six innings.

Greene County lost its first eight games, then went 10-10 the rest of the way. Among the accomplishments were six wins in their last nine contests, and that included a victory in the home finale against a Southeast Valley (Gowrie) team that has 22 wins on the season. The Rams were never shut out of a game, scoring at least one run in all 28 games.

The only seniors on the team were Jenna Beyers and Megan Carey. The two Paton-Churdan graduates had two of the top three averages on the team and were defensive anchors up the middle with Beyers at shortstop and Carey in center field.

A number of players should return for 2020 include the pitching/catching duo of Emma Hoyle pitching and Emma Stream catching. Both were eighth graders.
