North Polk(Alleman) clinched a tie for the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball title with a 10-run rule victory in Jefferson at Allensworth Field in Jefferson on Thursday night over Greene County. Coach Dave Middleton’s team won 11-0 on the strength of a nine-run fifth. The victory was the 16th in a row for NP and the Class 3A ninth ranked Comets improved to 24-4 overall and they finished the conference schedule at 13-1, tying Gilbert for the league title.

Coach John Hupp’s Rams fell to 9-19 and they went 4-10 in the HOIAC. The Rams managed three hits, all singles, off left-handed senior pitcher Colten Parkens. Brent Riley singled to center in the second inning. Tyler Teeples had an infield hit in the fourth and Bryce Stalder had a fifth inning infield hit. Parkens faced just one batted over the minimum.

The Comets sent 14 batters to the plate in the fifth and they hit back-to-back homers off Teeples, the starting and losing pitcher. Jeff Lamp blasted a two-run shot to right center, then Mark Cox followed with a shot shot to center. In all, the Comets had 12 hits, no errors, and left six on base. Greene County had one error and left one on base. No one from Greene County reached beyond first base.

Thursday night’s game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Tonight, KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com will broadcast the Rams at home vs. Carroll High in a game that was not on the original schedule. Game time is around 7:30 p.m.
