A Casey man has been sentenced to three years probation for two felony drug offenses.

According to Guthrie County Attorney Brenna Bird, 59-year-old Andrew Dean Nelson pled guilty to two counts of possession of a controlled substance third offense, a class D felony, and was sentenced to two consecutive 10 year prison terms that were suspended and he was placed on three years probation. Nelson was ordered to pay court costs, the law enforcement initiative surcharges, the D.A.R.E. surcharge, a $300 probation fee, $1,375 in fines, attorney’s fees, and $1,560 in jail fees. Nelson must submit a substance abuse evaluation, and he was ordered to enter the Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center to remain until maximum benefits are achieved. These charges relate to incidents that occurred on February 15th and July 18th. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation assisted.
