The home opener for the Perry Bluejays varsity football team didn’t go as planned, as they fell to Dallas County rival Adel-DeSoto-Minburn by a score of 71-0.

The Tigers started the game fast, taking their opening drive 63 yards in nine plays, including two fourth down conversions, capping it with the first of three first quarter touchdown runs by quarterback Tate Stine-Smith. ADM didn’t relent the rest of the first half, scoring touchdowns on all seven of their offensive possessions, and adding a defensive touchdown as well. Meanwhile the Bluejays recorded negative yards from scrimmage and had no first downs through the first two quarters. The score was 28-0 after the first stanza, and 57-0 at intermission.

ADM took their foot off the gas in the second half with their second team offense and defense on the field for the remainder of the game. However, that didn’t stop them from scoring a touchdown on their first possession of the third quarter on a run by backup quarterback Matthew Dufoe. Perry did have a chance to put points on the board at the start of the fourth quarter, taking possession at the Tigers’ 28 yard line. The drive stalled at the 16 however, and the Bluejays missed the subsequent field goal attempt. ADM tacked on one last touchdown in the fourth, and left Dewey Field with a dominant 71-0 victory.

The loss drops Perry to 0-2 for the season, with their next game at home against Nevada. Listen to the live play-by-play coverage next Friday on AM 1310, FM 99.7 KDLS, with pregame starting at 7 p.m. and kickoff at 7:30.
