A look at the Greene County High School sports calendar for this week shows two big home events. The first one is cross-country. The Rams host one cross-country meet each season and it’s set for Thursday, Sept. 12 at Spring Lake State Park northwest of Grand Junction. Head coach Jeff Lamoureux watched his team have their best finishes so far this season at the West Central Valley meet on Sept. 5 and they’ll try to keep that momentum going.

The other home event is Friday, Sept. 13 when the Rams host the Saydel Eagles from Des Moines in non-district high school football. Game time is 7 p.m. from Linduska Field in Jefferson with coverage starting at 6 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams are 2-0 and top 10 ranked in Class 2A after Friday night’s thrilling 42-41 victory at Nevada. The Eagles are 0-2 and have been out scored 105-13.

Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Greene Country volleyball team is on the road twice this week. The Rams go to Jewell on Thursday to face South Hamilton in the first Heart of Iowa Activities Conference match of the season. On Saturday, they go to Eldora for the South Hardin tournament.

Three Greene County students swim for Boone through a shared athletic agreement. The Toreadors are at home on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
