Greene County Rams

Week two of the Iowa high school football season saw several Class 2A top 10 ranked teams lose games, prompting a rise in the rankings for the Greene County Rams. Last Friday’s narrow 42-41 victory at Nevada put Greene County at 2-0 on the season. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams are ranked fifth by the Associated Press and sixth by the Des Moines Register.

Greene County is coming off a game in which they scored 42 points and put up 583 yards of offense. Running back Colby Kafer ran for 361 yards and four touchdowns, and quarterback Brent Riley threw for 252 yards and two scores. Kafer’s 361 leads the state in single game rushing yards through the first two weeks of the season and his 540 yards in two games leads class 2A by nearly 150 yards.

A point of emphasis this Friday when the Rams host Saydel (Des Moines) at Linduska Field in Jefferson will be reducing turnovers. Greene County has turned the ball over six times in the first two games, including four times at Nevada. The Rams have collected three turnovers for a minus 3 turnover margin.

Saydel is 0-2 and has given up 105 points in losses to Atlantic and Knoxville. The Eagles had just 17 yards of total offense last Friday in a 56-0 loss to the Panthers. Coverage Friday on KG98 and streamed on starts at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
