The planning and design phase continues to progress with the new elementary building for the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District, though it will take a little longer than expected to complete.

Superintendent Greg Dufoe gave an update on the project to the School Board at their most recent meeting, where he detailed a new timeline for the project. He said due to an increase in the steps required by the City of Adel, adjustments had to be made by the school and their design firm, FRK Architects and Engineers. However, Dufoe emphasized that the completion date shouldn’t be affected. “In terms of the timeline, it really just shifts everything back a month. (It) gives us a little more time to complete the plans for the site layout and also the floorplan. We’re still working on the design development, and that gives us a little more margin to also meet with the City for their timeline and their requirements. So it just shifts it back a month, but does not impact the projected start of school in August of 2021.”

The public approved a $15.75 million bond referendum in June to build a new elementary building in Adel, which is the first step towards keeping up with the District’s rapid enrollment growth. The facility will be located on South 15th Street, northwest of the Adel Family Aquatic Center, it will house grades 2-4, and will have a capacity of 650 students.
