As harvest season draws closer, it’s a good time to review safety reminders during National Farm Safety and Health Week.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams has these suggestions when motorists encounter farm implements on the road.

“Just remember that a lot of the equipment nowadays is significantly larger than it used to be. They take up a lot more space. A lot of the tractors may have turn signals but they’re covered up with dirt from being in the fields. So when you see a tractor and you’re thinking about passing make sure there’s not a field drive just ahead, or an intersection. (But) Don’t pass them because you never know when they’re going to turn.”

As for farmers, Williams suggests wiping off all turn signals and flashing lights before traveling on the roadway. He says farm equipment must also have a slow-moving vehicle sign posted on its rear when traveling.
