Greene County’s Class 2A unbeaten and fifth ranked high school football team hosts Kuemper Catholic on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson in the annual Homecoming game. The Knights were the only team in 2018’s regular season to beat the Rams, which the Knights did by a 16-0 score. They used early turnovers and were able to stymie Greene County’s potent offense to pull the upset.

The 2019 Rams, just like the 2018 version, enters this game with a 5-0 record and top 10 ranking, while the Knights are 1-4 and have lost four straight games. One of the challenges for Kuemper Catholic, or any Greene County opponent for that matter, is to defend one of Class 2A’s most balanced offenses.

Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams average 44 points and just over 380 yards of offense per game. They’ve passed for 974 yards and run for 929, which breaks down to 51% of the yardage through the air and 49% on the ground.

Some opponents have chosen to try and stop both, which hasn’t been successful. Others have stacked the line of scrimmage and concentrated on slowing down the run. Shenandoah was one of the latter. The Mustangs gave up a little more than 100 rushing yards, but quarterback Brent Riley threw for 225 yards and tosses four TD passes to four different receivers. The Rams won the Class 2A District 9 opener 49-7.
