In 2018, Dallas Center-Grimes Football finished the season with a 1-8 record. The Mustangs lone win last season came in a nail-biting victory over Perry.
In 2019, DC-G opened the season with a 14-0 loss at Pella in Week 1. But then, in Week 2, something clicked. The Mustangs traveled to Norwalk to face the ranked Warriors. DC-G and Norwalk were nip and tuck through three and a half quarters of play. In the final minutes, Quarterback, Ty Walker led the Mustangs down the field to send the game to Overtime. DC-G came up with the OT, upset victory in the extra session.
Since then, DC-G has been undefeated. The Mustangs currently sit on a 7-1 season record, with a 4-0 record in District play.
Tonight’s opponent for Dallas Center-Grimes is Carroll. The Tigers will travel to Grimes with a 5-3 record on the season, and a 4-0 District mark, themselves.
Over the past month, both Carroll and DC-G have been unstoppable, and both will compete for a District Championship tonight. The winner of tonight’s contest will receive an automatic bid into the State Football Playoffs, while the losing team must hope for an at-large bid. Simply based on win-loss records, and RPI, DC-G would have a higher chance of earning a playoff berth by at-large standards, but the only way to guarantee a punched ticket is with a win.
Tonight’s District Championship Showdown between Carroll and DC-G is set for a 7:30pm kickoff from the Mustangs’ home turf in Grimes.
