William “Bill” Allen Nelson, age 70 of Shannon, IL passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL. He was born on September 25, 1949 in Jefferson, IA to the late John and Nina (Coffin) Nelson. Bill married Diane Osmundson on May 25, 1974 in Randall, IA.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon at 11:00 a.m. There will be a visitation on Sunday, November 3, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. also at the church. A memorial fund has been established.

Bill was a 1967 graduate of East Green High School in Grand Junction, IA. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon and a past member and President of the Shannon Lions Club. Bill had worked as a police officer for Adams County Sherriff’s Office and Thornton Police Department in Colorado and also a part time Police Officer for the Shannon Police Department. He retired from Metlife in Freeport, IL. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, shooting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife, Diane Nelson of Shannon; his son, Shawn (Jennifer) Nelson of Monroe, NC; his daughter, Nicole (Kyle) Ruter of Shannon; his brother, Jim (Deb) Nelson of Jefferson, IA; his sisters, Rose (Bill) Zimmerle of Adel, IA and Carol (Rich) Gower of Jefferson, IA; his grandchildren, Kylee and Kamdyn Ruter and Olivia and James Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
