“Flipping the script” has been the motto of Scott Heitland’s DC-G Football team all season.  From being 1-8 in 2018, to turning around the ship in 2019 with a current 8-1 record.

The season has seen many highlights, and not so many dips.  The Mustangs are currently riding an eight game winning streak, and coming off of a District Championship last Friday night in Grimes, taking down Carroll by the score of 14-7.

Tonight, DC-G gets matched up with Harlan, who makes the trip to Grimes with a record of 7-2 on the season.

The Mustangs’ defense this season has been dominant, to say the least.  DC-G hasn’t allowed any more than 27 points in a game all season, while tonight’s opponent Harlan, has given up 27 points or more four times this year.

Dallas Center-Grimes is giving up just under 11 points per game.  The Mustangs have been able to control time of possession, and field position nearly all season.

On the offensive side of the ball, DC-G brings in a balanced attack.  The Mustang offense is lead under the direction of Junior, Quarterback, Ty Walker.  Walker has over 1,000 yards through the air this season, and thrown for 13 touchdown passes.  Walker is averaging 13 yards per reception this season, as well.

However, DC-G can also punch the ball through the end zone on the ground, as well.  Zach Brand and Luke Busby have each carried the ball in for several scores this season.  Brand has rushed for six touchdowns, and four for Busby.

Caden Grimes, Isacc Boley, and Cody Hall have combined for 10 total touchdown receptions through the first nine games of the year.

The big task for the DC-G defense tonight will be to slow down the very athletic and dynamic quarterback of Harlan, Jonathon Monson.  Monson is the leading rusher for the Cyclones, averaging almost 7 yards per carry.  Monson is the leading rusher for his team, with 729 yards on the ground for him this season.

Tonight’s 3A first round match-up between DC-G and Harlan will kick off at 7:00pm in Grimes.  If you can’t make the game, be sure to tune into 99.7FM or AM1310 KDLS for live, play-by-play coverage.  Pregame coverage will begin around 6:00pm.  The game can also be streamed online at RaccoonValleyRadio.com, or on the KDLS mobile app.
