A quick response by the Perry Volunteer Fire Department resulted in minimal damage to a business.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian Eiteman tells Raccoon Valley Radio crews responded to the call at 2735 Willis Avenue around 11am Saturday. Eiteman says when fire crews arrived on scene, there were flames shooting out of an exhaust pipe on the backside of the commercial building. Firefighters were able to get on top of the structure and extinguish the flames.

Eiteman explains the fire started near the heater. A worker was turning on the furnace and there was a bird nest in the exhaust pipe that they believe is what caused the fire. The damage was contained to the heater and exhaust pipe. No one was injured.

According to the Dallas County Assessor’s real estate webpage, the property is listed as an auto body shop and towing service. The Perry Police Department assisted at the scene.
