The New Opportunities Guthrie County Family Development Center is offering assistance to low-income residents wanting to celebrate Thanksgiving.

The organization is assembling Thanksgiving dinner packages to distribute on November 22nd. The packages will include a turkey and other uncooked items for preparation. Anyone is welcome to apply for a package, and applications are due this Friday. Coordinator Rhonda Huggins shares why they provide this service, “Because we know our low-income families need that, they’re struggling to keep food on the table every day, not just at the holidays. So we know that they could use that extra little boost during the holidays.”

Huggins is also accepting monetary or food donations for the packages. If you would like to apply for a package, or wish to help donate items, you can contact Huggins at 641-747-3845 or stop by her office at Guthrie Center City Hall.
