Greene County increased the varsity win total from 2018’s 7-22 record to 12-20 this season. This was the second season under the direction of head coach Chris Heisterkamp. The team had three seniors- Aubrey Heupel, Paige Heaning, and Harleigh Weir. Of the seniors, Coach Heisterkamp noted, “They are fantastic young ladies, and right now it’s hard to imagine a future team without them. Aubrey, Paige, and Harleigh had a significant role on our team and led us through many ups and downs.”

The coach had additional comments about each senior. “Aubrey (setter)was steadfast in her mission to put up hittable balls and never seemed to tire of chasing down the ones that didn’t get to her as planned. Paige (libero) became more and more solid in her back row play as the season went on and really improved in her quickness and in reading the angles, as well as leading the back row action. Harleigh played all the way around for us and was strong in serving and was involved in much of our serve receive passing as well.”

The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference will be represented next week at the State Tournament by Class 3A qualifier Nevada. Once the Cubs’ season is over, all-conference selections will be announced.
