Greene County doesn’t play basketball until Dec. 2, but the girls start practice tomorrow for the 2019-20 season. Coach Tyler Westhoff starts his second season as a girls’ basketball coach with several players returning as letter winners. The Rams won just one game a season ago, when they split Heart of Iowa Activities Conference games with Saydel (Des Moines), who also had just one victory.

The Rams averaged just 24.2 points a season ago and shot only 22.7% as a team for the season. Three-point shooting was at just 18.6% and free throw shooting was at 48.4%. The Rams had no seniors on the team a season ago, but Brazilian foreign exchange student Luisa Slompo at 6′ 0″, is no longer in school here.

Boys’ basketball, boys’ swimming, and wrestling practice begins throughout Iowa high schools on Nov. 18. Ram basketball can be heard again this season on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com and KG98.9 FM. The season begins with a girl/boy doubleheader at Ogden, followed by the home openers on Dec. 3 vs. Perry in the middle school gym in Jefferson.
