This weekend a handful of Greene County kids will make their families’ holiday a little brighter.

The Greene County Peace Officers Association is once again sponsoring Shop With A Cop. The event takes place on Saturday and Peace Officers Association President Jack Williams says everyone will meet at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson in the morning. The participants will then travel to Boone Walmart, where ten local children will each spend $150 on their family members and themselves. Everyone will then come back to Clover Hall to wrap gifts and enjoy free pizza and pop.

Williams adds, a new aspect to this year’s program is that they will give $250 to an organization that volunteers to help kids wrap their gifts. He explains why they added the charitable contribution.

“Last year we didn’t shop within Jefferson or Greene County. We took the kids to Walmart (in Boone) where they have everything that any kid could want. So in order to put (money) back into our community, we decided to do the $250 to an organization that would come out and help wrap.”

Williams notes $2,500 was raised for this year’s program, including a $1,000 donation by Boone Walmart. He adds, if someone would like to donate to Shop With A Cop, they can drop off their donation to the law enforcement center in Jefferson and checks can be made payable to the Greene County Peace Officers Association, earmarked for Shop With A Cop.
