Children wanting to find a gift for their loved ones and community members looking to celebrate the season with their neighbors are encouraged to attend the Stuart Lions Club’s annual Community Christmas Celebration.

One aspect of the event is the “Kids Shop Free” activity, where any child 17 years old and younger are able to “shop” for relatives at no cost. This lasts from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and afterwards adults will have the opportunity to shop until 2 p.m. Lions member Kristy Lonsdale is collecting donations from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays at the Stuart Herald office, “If anybody has any items they’d like to donate, we’re looking for men’s gifts that kids could pick out for their fathers or grandfathers, stepdads for Christmas or moms, or grandparents and we’ve even added on if you have some kids’ items you want to drop off maybe kids could shop to give to their brothers and sisters.”

Those with questions can contact Lonsdale at 515-523-1010. The Community Christmas Celebration will also include a visit from Santa Claus at noon, train rides from noon-1 p.m. and a soup lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. There will also be prize drawings throughout the event, which takes place this Saturday at the Stuart Congregational Church.
