From youth to adults, all women involved in agriculture are encouraged to join a new group hosted by Guthrie County Extension and Outreach.

Program Coordinator Krista Downing is hosting the group, titled Women Advancing Agriculture, for those living in and around Guthrie County. She plans to hold meetings quarterly throughout the year with various topics and speakers. She shares what gave her the idea, “I decided to start this program because I wanted a place for women to come together and grow professionally in the agriculture industry. Agriculture is primarily an industry that’s heavily dominated by males, so it can be hard to be taken seriously as a female in the industry. So I just wanted to be able to offer a place where we can all be equal, we can all learn together, share our experiences and our knowledge.”

The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 28th from 6-8 p.m. at the Extension office in Guthrie Center. The speaker will be Extension Beef Specialist Erika Lundy, talking about cow/calf operations. Downing encourages those interested to come with ideas to help mold the future of the group.
