The Adel City Council convened Tuesday evening in regular session.

The meeting began with recognizing Police Officer Bryce Deeth for five years of service, as well as swearing in new officers Mary Peters and Cory Herrmann. Following that, the Council got an update on the Kinnick to Raccoon Trail project, which is now completely funded, and a recap of the year 2019 for the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce as a whole. In new business, the Council set a public hearing for February 11th to rezone a portion of the Southbridge Urban Renewal Area, plat two, from single family residential – high density (R-1) to highway commercial (C-3). They also approved an engagement agreement with the Ahlers and Cooney Law Firm to prepare related proceedings to extend the Urban Renewal and Tax Increment Financing areas into Southbridge plat two, which is contingent on the rezone.

Other items approved included: a City Attorney services engagement agreement with Ahlers and Cooney for 2020-21; an engineering services contract with McClure Engineering for the Southbridge lift station project; the 2020-21 goal setting session report; and a license to utilize public right-of-way for a sign for the Glen-Gery Adel Brick Plant. The Council will have a second meeting this month on Monday, January 27th to begin work on the Fiscal Year 2020-21 budget.
