Friday night’s in Iowa High School sports for the Greene County Rams normally mean basketball, and Coach Chris Nelson’s Rams will play Woodward Academy on the road tomorrow night, while the Greene County girls have the night off.

Tomorrow night is especially big for the wrestling team as the lone girl, freshman Emma Hoyle, goes to Waverly for the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association 2020 Girls State Tournament at Waverly-Shell Rock High School. Wrestling starts at 5 p.m. Friday and goes well into the evening, then resumes Saturday morning.

The varsity wrestlers are also in action tomorrow night in Jewell for the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference tournament at South Hamilton HS. Action also starts at 5 p.m.

The Rams have had a successful dual meet season at 20-4. The wins are the most in a single season for any Ram wrestling team. The unbeaten squads in the early 1980’s didn’t wrestle nearly as many matches as today’s teams. Greene County head coach Zach Beekman told Raccoon Valley Radio the Rams have schedule another home meet for Tuesday, Jan. 28 in the middle school gym in Jefferson. ADM and Colfax-Mingo have committed to it, and a fourth team is being sought.
