Carroll swept both ends of a non-conference high school girl/boy basketball doubleheader in Jefferson on Saturday inside the middle school gym. The Tigers were 77-9 winners over Greene County in the girls’ game, and 81-52 winners in the boys. Both games were broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The Greene County girls made just two of 25 shots (8 percent) and turned the ball over 31 times to fall to 2-18 on the season. The Tigers improved to 12-7 and they made 30 of 58 shots with just eight turnovers, and that includes having 10 players score four or more points. Carroll had an incredible run of 46 unanswered points to go from being ahead 23-3 to leading 69-3. Senior Izzy Bravard had six of the Greene County points while Kennedy Lein and Ella Collison each had 13 for Carroll.

Greene County’s boys hung with the Class 3A number two ranked Tigers until the midway point of the third quarter. The Tigers were up 43-38 and then scored the next 23 points to put the game away. Carroll improved to 16-1 and the Rams fell to 4-15. The Tigers had 21 points from Karter Lein, 14 by Colby Vincent, 11 for Kaleb Booth, and 10 for Nick Macke. Greene County had two players reach double figures. Senior Carter Morton scored 14 and senior Cael Fisher added 10 points.

Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play resumes Tuesday with the North Polk (Alleman) teams visiting the middle school gym in Jefferson. Tuesday is the last regular season game for the Greene County girls and the last varsity girl/boy doubleheader for the gym. The new high school and gymnasium on the northwest part of Jefferson will be the home of the Rams starting next school year.
