Last week the Iowa High School Athletic Association released new districts across all six classes of high school football competition.

Most schools across the state were affected in some capacity, and Dallas Center-Grimes was no exception

Starting in the fall of 2020, DC-G will now be included in a District of much closer schools, geographically speaking.

District 8 will include Dallas Center-Grimes, ADM, Perry, Des Moines Hoover, Norwalk, and Winterset.  The two-hour plus road trips to far away schools seem to be a thing of the past.  At least, for now.

Mustang Head Coach, Scott Heitland, had this to say about his program’s District placement. “Surprised that we are going to be in a one-year cycle. I didn’t see that one coming. I don’t see it being a huge issue but it could impact how some people approach their non-district selections.”

Heitland also added, “I think that we have a very competitive district. When you look at it, I see teams that we have experience playing which is always good. For our communities, it is a good driving district and should lead to some really electric atmospheres on game night. The big surprise was DM Hoover being added into Class 3A along with additional 4A schools coming down. That is the second time in the last few years that they have reduced the number of schools in the largest class. I think that we have an opportunity to be very competitive in our draw and will be excited to see the rest of the schedule in the coming weeks.”

The playoff format will remain the same as it has in recent years.  Class 3A will grant 16 playoff bids. 9 bids will be automatic, and will be awarded to the winners of each district, and the other 7 bids will be granted on and at-large basis.
