The Jefferson Police Department is investigating a possible burglary that occurred some time prior to Thursday morning at the Jefferson Veterans of Foreign Wars building.

According to the police department, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office contacted the police department after finding paperwork, metal ammunition boxes, ammunition, and other assorted office materials belonging to the Jefferson VFW organization in a ditch in the 1500 block of 290th Street north of Cooper. Jefferson Police Officers went to the VFW Hall  and found the rear door of the building had been damaged, and the inside appeared to have been disturbed. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
