A Perry woman was arrested Monday afternoon on a pair of felony charges related to allegedly stealing money from a resident at the Rowley Masonic Community.

According to Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn, charges were filed against 48-year-old Dawn Marie Brown, which included forgery and dependent adult abuse – exploitation over $100, both class D felonies. Per the criminal complaint, Brown was an employee at Rowley and allegedly stole checks from one of the residents under her care. She reportedly wrote 12 checks over a several month period, forging the victim’s signature, with the money totalling $711.48. The fraudulent expenses were noticed by the victim’s daughter and the complaint was brought to the Perry Police Department.

After an investigation, the department contacted Brown and she came to the station Monday to be interviewed. She was subsequently arrested and booked into Dallas County Jail, and has since been released by court order after her initial appearance.
