With concerns continuing over the novel coronavirus, the Greene County School District recently announced they will be closing school.

Students and staff are currently on spring break this week, but Superintendent Tim Christensen said in a press release that the district will remain closed until April 13th. This coincides with Governor Kim Reynolds recommendation of all school districts to be closed for four weeks.

Other adjustments include not having early Wednesday dismissals once school is back in session and due to the Iowa Legislature allowing for districts to not have to make up the missed days of school, the final day of the current school year will be on May 29th, with graduation to be on May 23rd. Students will also have access to a “Summer Lunch” type program while school is temporarily not in session. Christensen notes finalized plans are being developed with the hope to have a drive-up and grab sack lunch system in place by March 23rd.

Additionally, the junior/senior prom has been postponed from April 4th to a later date, any use of district facilities by community or outside groups is suspended until further notice and as of noon on March 23rd, all district buildings will be closed to the public. The district is also working on educational opportunities for students to remain engaged in learning. The activities, resources and sample learning schedules are not required for students. Finalized plans will also be in place by 5pm March 23rd. Click the link below to access those resources.
