While the Perry School District is on a COVID-19-related hiatus, there’s still been a lot of activity from the teachers, administrators, and staff.

Superintendent Clark Wicks points out, there is quite a bit of voluntary education going on right now, which has been organized by individual teachers and presented on their website and social media. Wicks says that’s an outlet for the time being, but if the school closure lingers into May, there’s a lot that’s unknown. “We have many teachers using Facebook to either read a story or talk about an assignment, or talk about a challenge. So that’s what we’re going to continue to do. We don’t know what’s going to happen, so if it is extended then we’ll continue with the voluntary continuous improvement, and updating the different resources that are available. We’ll make another round of contacting families to make sure that they know how to get to those.”

Wicks adds, there’s also very little known about what would happen if the school year is cancelled altogether. In particular, scheduled tests and other assessments would be up in the air, but Wicks is confident the state would give the school districts guidance on how to proceed if that is the outcome.
