The Iowa Department of Public Health announced the latest figures on the spread of COVID-19 in the state, with 85 new cases confirmed Friday.

The new positive tests brings the statewide total to 699, though there have been 8,764 negative tests to date. Of the new cases, two are in Dallas County, both of whom are between ages 61-80. The countywide total now sits at 33, though according to the Dallas County Health Department 21 of the affected individuals have fully recovered. The Governor’s Office also reported there have been no new coronavirus-related deaths in Iowa, so the statewide total remains at 11. The IDPH also points out that over 59% of the people who have contracted the virus have not required hospitalization.

Additionally, in an attempt to keep Iowa’s COVID-19 occurrences down, Governor Kim Reynolds announced Thursday that she was extending the order to keep schools closed through April 30th. She also continued the prohibition of non-essential retail stores and dine-in services for restaurants. Violating the Governor’s public health orders is also now a simple misdemeanor.
