mex-to-u-1

A Perry restaurateur recently opened an establishment that expands on familiar offerings.

The Mex-To-U taqueria is located on the east side of the Frio Ice Cream Shop building, and is owned and operated by Jose and Ignacio Calderon who also run the El Tren taqueria in Caboose Park. The Calderon’s purchased the building from Hotel Pattee Owner Tom Maxwell last year. The restaurant’s menu is an expanded version of El Tren’s, and with an indoor location it can operate year-round.

Currently the restaurant is carry-out only due to dining restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, but they’ve seen steady foot traffic so far in the week they’ve been open. Once the dine-in ban has been lifted, the Calderons plan to reopen the other side of the establishment: the popular Frio shop. At this point they also plan to operate El Tren once the public water to the caboose has been turned back on.

Mex-To-U is located across the alley from Hotel Pattee on 1st Street, and they are open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Pick-up orders can be arranged by calling 515-726-0691.
