The Perry community is banding together for a retro celebration that will also allow for safe socialization Friday night.

A “Cruise the Loop” event is being organized by several Perry residents, and everyone is invited to drive up and down Willis Avenue for a few hours starting at 6 p.m. The “Loop” runs from the East Perry Plaza by Stokely Lumber to Fareway. Organizers say this type of activity was a tradition a long time ago and many people are still familiar with how it works, so anyone unfamiliar with the route can fall in line and follow the procession. The event was proposed as a way for people to have fun and socialize on a Friday night, while still maintaining the social distancing mandated by the COVID-19 pandemic. There may be some drive-by food and drink options along the route, though that aspect is still being ironed out.

Raccoon Valley Radio will also be getting in on the fun, as Shawn Kenney will host a special live radio show on air, taking requests from the cruisers. People can tune into AM 1310, FM 99.7 KDLS starting at 6 for the “Cruise the Loop” soundtrack. Motorists who don’t wish to be part of the event are advised to avoid Willis Avenue during that time.
