A Jefferson man faces felony charges following a high speed chase Sunday afternoon through western Greene County.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says at 12:22pm, a deputy responded to a call of a reckless driver near Jefferson. The deputy found the vehicle on Highway 30 and K Avenue. The deputy then found out that the driver, 32-year-old Steven Dzuris had a driving while barred charge. As the deputy tried to stop Dzuris’ vehicle, he reportedly fled reaching speeds of 110-miles-per-hour. 

According to the Jefferson Police Department, Dzuris turned south onto Kirkwood Avenue and then west on 237th Street. He then turned north on E Avenue through the City of Scranton and then west onto Highway 30 toward Glidden. Williams says a Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy used spike strips near Glidden which blew out both tires on the passenger side. Dzuris continued to drive toward the City of Carroll. Williams says a Carroll Police Officer used spike strips just outside of Carroll, but those missed. Then a “rolling road block” was used to eventually slow down Dzuris’ vehicle until it came to a complete stop.

According to Williams, Dzuris continued to be non-compliant and locked the doors of the vehicle. Dzruis then broke the driver’s side glass and a Jefferson Police Officer suffered minor injuries with a cut to his arm. The suspect was then apprehended and transported to the Greene County Jail.

Dzruis is charged with two Class D Felonies for eluding and his third offense for an OWI, along with misdemeanors for interference with official acts, driving while barred and reckless driving. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
