There are a lot of unknowns regarding the future of popular summer activities in Dallas County, given the ongoing concerns of COVID-19.

The Perry Chamber of Commerce has already announced that they will not be holding the first Friday Fest of the summer, which was planned for June. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti says the feasibility of the concert – which routinely draws several hundred people to Pattee Park – was brought into question, especially considering it’s held on City property. She’s hopeful the second Friday Fest, scheduled for August, will be able to go on in some capacity, whether it’s in person or virtually.

Pasutti adds, the bigger concern on many people’s minds is the fate of the annual 4th of July celebration, which brings several thousand attendees to Perry. At this time, she says there likely won’t be festivities held at Pattee Park, but they’re still planning to have activities that can be done with social distancing. “We are looking at ways that we can still do some fundraising efforts for the 4th of July fireworks, so that that could still be an option for people to enjoy. Whether it’s from their home, from their car, (or) you know distant at the park. And then as far as the parade goes, it’s another thing that people look forward to, but again avoiding some of that crowd and gathering. (We’re) looking at ways that we can either adapt a different route this year so that it spaces things out, or just simply not doing it. But that is something that we will be working on.”
