After nearly three months in recess, the 2020 Iowa Legislative session will at last resume this Wednesday.

There’s a great deal of topics expected to be covered when the session reopens, though exactly what the assembly will look like over the next few weeks has differing opinions from many legislators. Regardless of the agenda, legislators such as District 10 Senator Jake Chapman are anxious to pick up where they left off after the long hiatus. “I will just say I’m very excited to get back. We’re kind of at that final stage of the Legislature where we left session. And this is really for me one of the funnest parts of the session, because a lot of bills end up getting voted on and you know what’s going to actually pass. All of the hard work you’ve done in the committee process, and now you get to see what’s going to pass and what doesn’t pass. So I’m really excited to get back to work to be able to see what we’re able to actually get accomplished.”

Chapman points out there will be some procedural changes for the session because of ongoing social distancing guidelines, such as committees meeting on the chamber floor instead of in smaller rooms. He adds, everything will be live streamed on the Legislature’s website.
