Greene County Activities Director Todd Gordon talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about how attending baseball and softball games this summer will be due to COVID-19 concerns. The A.D. said all eight schools in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference have adopted the same rules.

All HOIAC schools will not have admission fees, but will instead ask for a free will donation to softball and baseball games. Most conference schools will have very limited, if any, bleacher seating. Bring your lawn chairs or stand at games. Greene County has removed bleachers from the diamonds. No concessions will be available. Fans may bring individual coolers, which may be subject to search. No community coolers are allowed, and as always, no alcohol is allowed at high school events.

Others changes include restroom availability. Restrooms will be open with limited availability and everyone should plan to bring their own hand sanitizer. Everyone is expected to be patient and use common sense, and practice safe social distancing with groups being limited to a single household. Players, coaches, and fans must nut spit. No sunflower seeds are allowed, and everyone should abide by posted signs.

Gordon emphasized staying home if you don’t feel well, or show symptoms, or if you have been in contact with someone with a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days.

The Rams open the season on June 15 in Des Moines at Saydel HS for softball and baseball. The home schedule is set to begin in Jefferson on Wed., June 17 vs. South Hamilton (Jewell).
