Despite the extremely abbreviated track and field season, an AC/GC senior earned recognition for her work on the track and in the classroom.

Earlier this week the Iowa Association of Track Coaches released their Academic All-State recipients. AC/GC senior Kate Crawford was one of just 51 recipients across the state to receive the honor. To qualify, the student athlete must be a senior, have at least a 3.8 cumulative GPA, earned a 28 or higher composite score on their ACT, and qualify for at least one event for the 2019 state championships.

As a junior, Crawford qualified for four events at the 2019 Iowa High School State Coed Track and Field Championships. She grabbed a silver medal for the second consecutive year in the 3000 meter run, behind only Mid-Prairie juggernaut Marie Hostettler. Crawford was the only athlete from the West Central Activities Conference to make last year’s Des Moines Register’s All-Iowa Girls Track and Field Team. Crawford received the honor in the “Distance” category for Class 2A.

Crawford holds the ACGC records in the 3000, 1500, and 800 meter runs. She is also the lone state champion in ACGC’s young history, claiming the Class 1A state cross country individual title in 2016 as a freshman.
