A bus that caught fire Thursday in Grand Junction resulted in severe damage but no injuries.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the sheriff and the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to the incident at 5:47pm at the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction. Sheriff Jack Williams says the driver, Merlyn Tucker of Jefferson, was pulling into the driveway area of the convenience store and noticed the rear engine compartment was on fire.

Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio, crews responded and were able to put out the fire, which caused severe damage to the vehicle. Since the vehicle was parked alongside the road to Casey’s, no damage was done to the property. Williams believes the cause to be from a bird’s nest catching fire from inside the exhaust system of the vehicle.
