The 2020 Normal-ISH Greene County Fair is this week.

Greene County 4-H’ers have dropped off their static exhibits to Clover Hall to be judged today and tomorrow. Due to COVID-19, Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Kayla Willms explains how those exhibits will be judged.

“We’ve split our static judging day into two days to eliminate the number of judges that are here in one time frame. It’ll be non-conference. So the only face-to-face exhibits will be communication and fashion. (It’s) like state fair where they (the static exhibits) get dropped off and then get reviewed. That’s how they’ll judge this year is that non-conference style.”

The 4-H and FFA livestock shows kick-off tomorrow with the dog obedience and showmanship show, along with the agility show, and every livestock show will not be open to the public. There will not be grandstand events either. Greene County Fair Board President Connor Juergensen says it was a difficult decision to not have public events at the fair, but it was the safest option during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Since March it’s obviously been on everybody’s radar of, ‘Okay we’re getting two weeks closer to the fair’ and another two weeks passes. The rumblings start of, ‘What are going to be our protocols and how are we going to run our event?’ It’s been non-stop communication between all of the Fair Board members, just trying to figure out the best way and to still have the kids out there and still provide a safe environment.”

Raccoon Valley Radio’s Lil’ Big Red Radio will be at the county fair broadcasting live. Check out the Greene County Fair page on our website raccoonvalleyradio.com and the right-hand side of the homepage.
