Road construction is something that seemingly never has an end, and crews in Dallas County have continued being productive over the last couple months in trying to keep up with the demand.

County Engineer Al Miller says the Secondary Roads Department has been able to take advantage of the ideal weather to make up for any disruptions caused by the coronavirus outbreak. “Obviously Mother Nature was a lot nicer to us this spring and summer than in previous years, but I am pretty happy with the production of our field folks and being able to work through the whole COVID-19 situation. I think we’ve had a pretty good spring and summer, and I’m very proud of our maintenance folks that have been working hard to deal with social distancing and all the stuff that goes along with trying to be safe as well as being productive.”

So far this year, Dallas County crews have been able to reshape and resurface 30 miles of gravel road, repair three miles of ditches, put down 25 miles of shoulder rock, and replace 24 culverts. Miller says there should be more of that to come, and he adds that the related disruptions to traffic should be kept to a minimum.
